Recall Effort Moves Forward Against Liberty Elementary School District Vice President Kristopher Kenyon
Pattern of Recall? Fifth Liberty Elementary School Board Member Targeted Since 2020
West Valley Families has confirmed that a group called 4 Liberty Kids has submitted the required number of signatures to officially trigger the recall process for Liberty Elementary School District Governing Board Vice President Kristopher Kenyon. The filing was at 10:50am today - a little over six hours ahead of the deadline.
The Maricopa County School Superintendent's Office oversees recall activity.
The two most recent recall efforts for this year include Jessica Bueno, former president of the Phoenix Elementary School District Governing Board, who resigned in April, and Bryan Parks of the Liberty Elementary School District, who stepped down in February.
Kenyon was elected to the Liberty Elementary School District Governing Board in the November 2024 general election, earning the second-most votes among five candidates vying for three four-year seats. He received 7,172 votes (18.9%), just ahead of Bryan Cirrincione with 7,117. Kellie Zimmerman led the field with 10,877 votes (28.7%).
What happens next? County Superintendent’s office tells us, purportedly, 3,595 signatures were filed. “We have begun our process to verify all petition paperwork is in order. We have 10 business days.” If deemed sufficient, an official recall election will be scheduled—allowing voters to decide whether to remove Kenyon from office.
The county superintendent required the group collect 3,161 signatures. The petition outlines several grievances, accusing Kenyon of “consistently failing to act in the best interest of our district’s students, parents, and educators.” The statement goes on to allege he has disregarded stakeholder input, mismanaged finances—including drawing from financial reserves—and contributed to instability by failing to retain staff, all of which the group says threaten the quality and stability of public education in the district.
We have reached out to Mr. Kenyon for comment and have not yet received a response.
The Maricopa County Superintendent’s Office has tracked 25 failed recall applications since November 2020—including three previous attempts targeting other Liberty ESD board members.
A source tells us a recall election would cost the district roughly $65,000.
